KARACHI, May 21: Different parts of the city are deprived of water for the last one week.

These localities include Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s blocks 4, 4-A and Limbo Goth.

Residents of the affected localities complained that although they are not getting water for the past one week, the concerned officials of the city government’s water and sanitation department, have not taken measures for restoring supply despite a number of complaints lodged with them.

However, the Water and Sewerage department sources said that water supply to the localities had been suspended owing to repair works being undertaken at the Maskan Pumping Station from where these localities are supplied water.

Complaints of persisting water shortage have also been received from different sectors of Ranchhore Lines, Bhimpura, North Karachi, Orangi and Baldia townships, parts of Lyari, Kharadar and Mithadar.

Meanwhile, the localities which went dry on Wednesday under the weekly water-holiday system included Garden East, Garden West, Soldier Bazaar, Shikarpur Colony, Saddar, Old City Area and Cosmopolitan Society.

CLOSURE: Water supply would remain suspended on Thursday in Landhi, Korangi, Defence Housing Authority, National Refinery, Karachi Port Trust, Pakistan Railway, Pakistan Air Force (Korangi) Base and its adjoining areas.

DENIAL: Rangers have stated that “none of its outfits in Karachi has illegal water connections.” It may, however, be pointed out that information pertaining to unauthorised water connections taken by Rangers Officers Mess, Maulvi Tameezuddin Khan Road and Rangers headquarters/health centre PIDC, was obtained from a list of unauthorized water connections prepared by the city’s water and sanitation department’s water trunk main division.
