MIRPURKHAS, July 11: A resident of Umerkot city has accused the Mirpurkhas and Umerkot police of taking into illegal detention her son and grandson, besides misbehaving with her and her family and taking away valuables while raiding their house.

Speaking at a press conference at the local press club on Thursday, Noor Begum said that two weeks ago a jewellery shop in Umerkot owned by Kanwar Lal, the brother of Kot Ghulam Mohammad assistant commissioner, had been robbed of gold and Rs500,000 in cash. However, she said the jeweller had stated in the FIR registered after the incident that 15 tolas of gold ornaments and Rs1.45 million in cash had been stolen.

She alleged that on the directives of the assistant commissioner the Umerkot police had raided her house, misbehaved with the family, and taken away gold ornaments from her daughter and Rs150,000 in cash.

She said that after she complained to the Mirpurkhas DIG, the Umerkot SHO became angry and beat her up before he arrested her son.

Noor Begum said that soon afterwards the Umerkot SHO also picked up her grandson Waqas from Digri town illegally while blackmailing her relatives in Mirpurkhas division of implicating them in false cases.

She said that her son and grandson were innocent and appealed to government and police authorities to sack the Umerkot SHO and recover their valuables from police.
