THATTA, May 20: Lady councillors belonging to Thatta district, Taluka and union councils held a demonstration outside the press club and observed a sit-in on the National Highway on Tuesday to protest against the district Nazim as well as the Nazims of a number of other union councils for not cooperating with them and giving them no importance.
The demonstrators were led by member District Council, Ayesha Soho, Hanifan Majidi and Fakhrun Nisa Shah.
Addressing the protesters, Ayesha Soho said the district government led by the District Nazim, Syed Shafqat Hussain Shah Shirazi, has miserably failed in delivering the goods.
The female councillors lamented that they were not consulted, particularly where development schemes were concerned.
They were often misled about District Council meetings so that they could not attend them.
They said that if any of the female councillors tried to say something, the male members immediately interrupted them.
Shamim Jafri said they had never been taken into confidence about the development schemes.
Nargis Bano, Amanat Palijo and Sher Bano Shah said that under the planned scheme, the male-dominated class in these councils was busy in usurping the state resources and causing sheer wastage of national resources.
