MIRPURKHAS, May 20: Secondary school teachers, on the call of the Government Secondary School Teachers Association, Mirpurkhas, took out a procession here on Monday to protest against non- payment of middle school project allowances to them.
The procession, led by district president of the association Iqbal Panhwar, started from the Government High School and culminated at the local press club.
Speaking to the protestors, Mr Panhwar accused the director general of the Provincial Institute of Teachers’ Education (PITE) Nawabshah, of corruption and misuse of his powers and demanded an investigation against him.
During the course of rally, Sindh minister for tourism and culture Shabbir Ahmed Qaimi reached the press club and assured the protesters that their allowances would be paid by May 25.
GSSTA leader Basheer Mahar informed the minister that the Sindh government had released Rs3.6 million for payment of the allowance to 300 teachers two months back.
He threatened that if payment of allowance was not made by May 25, the teachers would stage a big rally and observe a token hunger strike outside the PITE in Nawabshah.
DEMOS: The protest demonstrations against the headmaster of the Government Boys High School, Mirpurkhas, and the district accounts officer, Mirpurkhas, were continuing in the district.
On the call of the All Sindh Lower Staff Association (ASLSA) Education department and All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) Education department, Mirpurkhas district, employees took out a rally from the EDO, Education office, Mirpurkhas, and reached the press club after marching on the main roads.
Carrying placards and banners, they raised slogans against the headmaster of the Government Boys High School and the district accounts officer.
The employees adopted several resolutions, demanding transfer and suspension of the district accounts officer and the headmaster and allotment of quarters to lower staff in the premises of the high school.
Sindh Minister for Culture & Tourism Shabbir Ahmed Qaimi went to the press club and assured the protesters that their grievances would be resolved within a week.
