KARACHI, May 17: The National Institute of Child Health has denied a report that appeared in a section of the press about the death of a child after a fire broke out in the NICH’s burns ward on May 15.
An NICH press release said on Saturday there was a short circuit in the burns ward on May 15. A few sparks came out from the choke of a tubelight, but no fire broke out, and nothing was burnt. The main switch was turned off for a few minutes and the patients were shifted to the ICU, adjoining the ward.
A child in the burns ward was in a precarious condition before this incident. He was in another room and not in the place of incident. He died because of his condition and not due to suffocation, the press release stated.—PPI
