KARACHI, May 16: Sindh governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad has ordered setting up of a committee to bridge the gap between KESC and masses, with a view to improve the electricity system in Karachi, resolve people’s problems regarding electricity supply and restoring masses’ confidence in the corporation.

The committee will comprise Sindh Local Government Minister Mohammad Hussain, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, Senator Babar Ghori, MNA Hyder Rizvi and others.

MD KESC Brig. Tariq Saddozai apprised senators, MNAs, MPAs and advisors belonging to Karachi about the functioning of KESC and electricity system of the city.

The governor directed that the meetings of the committee be held regularly for achieving the desired results. He directed the committee to pay attention towards problems and needs of all areas of the city.

He also called for activating the complaint centres of corporation and 118.

He said that uninterrupted power supply be ensured to necessary utilities and there should be an improvement in the behaviour of its staff with public.

He stressed the need for formulation of a master plan by the corporation, in collaboration with city district government, Karachi.

The KESC is an institution of masses and it can be run better by their cooperation, he observed.

The governor directed the elected representatives to remain in contact with corporation’s officers and prepare schemes for bringing an improvement in electricity system. He also stressed them to playing their due role in eliminating power theft.

The meeting was told that deposits are being brought down to the level of other cities with regard to industrial connections.

The elected representatives expressed their concern about the electricity system and called for restoration of masses’ confidence in KESC.

Brig. Tariq Saddozai informed the meeting about long and short term plans for an improvement in electricity supply system. He said the corporation was enhancing its performance and in previous years it had brought a considerable improvement in its functioning.—PPI
