Green gas refrigerators

KARACHI, May 9: A multinational company has launched refrigerators based on green gas technology in Pakistan to gradually replace Freon gas refrigerators.

According to a press release issued here on Friday, World Bank consultant, Foams and Refrigeration, Mosuf Ali, said by 2010 only green gas based technology refrigerators would be acceptable after phasing out Freon refrigerators.

Speaking at the launch of refrigerators by Singer Pakistan, he pointed out that Pakistan is one of the 186 signatory countries who have ratified Montreal Protocol under which they have pledged to reduce consumption of Freon gas by 50 per cent by January 2003, 85 per cent by January 2007 and 100 per cent by January 2010.

Mosuf Ali said that UNIDO had formed a Ozone Trust Fund under which it provided $13 million grant for encouraging and switching over to green gas technology refrigerators.
