RAWALPINDI, May 7: The National Command Authority (NCA) here on Wednesday said that retention of minimum deterrence was the cornerstone of the country’s security.
A statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Department here after a meeting of the authority, was presided over by President Gen Pervez Musharraf, said Pakistan did not believe in an arms race.
The NCA reviewed the progress of country’s strategic programme and expressed satisfaction over the pace of development and effectiveness of the command and control structures (CCS).
It approved a number of proposals put forward by the Strategic Plans Division (SPD). The director-General of Strategic Plans Division, Lt-Gen Khalid Ahmed Kidwai gave a briefing on the national security plans.
The meeting was also attended by the Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, Foreign Minister, Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Gen Mohammad Aziz, services chiefs and other military and civil officials.
