RAWALPINDI, May 7: Tarnol police arrested three persons and seized a large quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession.
The police said they foiled an attempt to smuggle arms into the capital by arresting the accused — Shahakar Hassan, Azhar Abbas, and Dildar Pervaiz — at Tarnol crossing on Wednesday.
The police also seized weapons including five rocket launcher shells and bullets from the possession of the accused.
Meanwhile, mother of a schoolboy, who survived a kidnapping attempt, has asked the district police chief to arrest the culprits and ensure her son’s safety.
Abida Akram, a resident of Chaklala, lodged a complaint with the Civil Line police that she and her son, Nauman Hassan, had gone to visit Ayub National Park when some masked men tried to kidnap her son.
People present at the park rescued her son when she raised alarm. However, the culprits escaped from the scene.
She said she was so terrified that since the incident she did not allow her son to go to school.
She asked the deputy inspector general of police and the SSP to provide them security.
OUR STAFF REPORTER ADDS: Five armed robbers entered a house at Misrial Road on Tuesday and looted Rs150,000.
Manzoor Ahmed, the robbery victim, lodged a complaint with the RA Bazaar police saying that five armed persons entered his house on Tuesday and held his family at gunpoint.
The robbers snatched Rs150,000 and gold ornaments and locked the family in a room and escaped.
In another incident, Syed Azhar, a furniture trader at Shamasabad, was robbed of Rs13,500, a wrist watch and mobile telephone set.
Three robbers entered a hardware shop of district Nazim’s relative near Naz Cinema at Waris Khan in daylight on Tuesday and looted cash from its owner and employees and escape.
Mohammad Tariq Kiani, the shop owner said that three unidentified persons wearing masks entered his shop at 2:15pm and held him and salesmen at gunpoint.
The robbers snatched Rs37,000 from Mr Kiani and Rs5,000 from the salesmen and escaped.
The shopkeepers of the market pulled down their shutters in protest after the incident came to light.
