KARAK, Aug 7: On public complaints the anti-corruption unit raided the TMA office for gross irregularities in bidding of annual contracts and took into custody the relevant record.

Sources in the anti-corruption department informed here on Monday that the raid was led by Circle Officer Abdus Satar Khattak, adding there were complaints against Tehsil Municipal Officer Karak Gul Naib Khan that he had awarded load-unload, cess fee and property tax contracts in 2012-13 to his favoured contractors without advertising the bidding process through information department.

The sources further said there were also complaints that the Tehsil Municipal Officer was a sleeping partner in the contracts and therefore he awarded the load unload contract for Rs5 million instead of already available offer of Rs6 million with the local council board.

The sources said the anti-corruption department would now make further inquiry into the matter through its provincial auditor to ascertain the irregularities made in the award of contracts.

The sources said proper FIR would be lodged against the Tehsil Municipal Officer  after the completion of the inquiry if he was found guilty in the award of contracts.
