MANSEHRA, Oct 30: Six people were injured, two of them critically, when an explosive device went off in the office of a non-governmental organisation in Battagram on Tuesday morning.

Police said that some people had also fired rockets on an army camp and the offices of an international NGO had come under intense fire in Battagram on Monday night.

Officials said that Tuesday’s explosion had taken place in the office of the Sustainable Participatory Organisation (SPO).

Anwar Sher and Rafeeullah, who were seriously injured, were taken to the Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad and the other four, Yousaf Ali Shah, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Qamar and Abdul Aziz, to the District Headquarters Hospital in Battagram.

Police said the rockets fired on the army camp in Battagram landed outside the premises, causing no damage. They said the offices of Care Pakistan, an international NGO working for rehabilitation of earthquake survivors in Battagram, came under fire at midnight. No loss of life was reported.

DSP (investigation) Mohammad Ishfaq told Dawn that pieces of the bomb found in the SPO office showed that a heavy device had been used.

Officials said the army had launched its own investigation into the rocket attack on the camp.

Sources said the army camp and the Care Pakistan offices had been attacked from the nearby mountains.

Local and international NGOs have suspended their activities and closed their offices in Allai, Battagram and Kohistan areas.

The sources said police had asked NGOs to restrict the mobility of their foreign staff in earthquake-hit areas.
