KARACHI: Housemaid gets bail in professor’s murder case

KARACHI, Oct 27: A sessions court on Tuesday refused bail to an accused, but enlarged his female accomplice on bail in the 2008 murder case of a retired female professor.

The accused, Saleem alias Shabbir and Khalida, had filed bail applications in the court through their counsel.

The judge, Obaid Ahmed Khan, pronounced the order after hearing arguments from both sides.

The woman was granted bail with a surety of Rs100,000.

According to the prosecution, the body of 75-year- old retired Professor (Dr) Zeba Zakia was found dumped in the bushes on January 29, 2008 within the remit of the Sachal police station.

The professor was unmarried and used to live alone in her Gulshan-i-Iqbal residence.

The police arrested her driver, Saleem alias Shabbir, and housemaid Khalida on charges of killing her.

A case (FIR No 55/2008) was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) at the Gulshan-i-Iqbal police station.
