KARACHI, March 16: The excise police acting upon the orders of Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla recovered stocks of poisonous liquor and hashish in separate raids, says a press release issued on Monday.

In one raid conducted on a house in Baloch Goth, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, the divisional intelligence of the excise police, Karachi, seized 50 pints of poisonous homemade liquor and arrested one suspect, identified as Anil Masih.

Another raid was conducted on a house, R-70, sector 3-D-13, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, on a tip-off. The raiding party recovered 42 bottles of homemade liquor and spirit and arrested a suspect, identified as Pervez Masih.

Yet another raid was carried out on a place at Khaibar Chowk, Ittehad Town, where the police party recovered 78 bottles of homemade liquor and arrested a suspect, identified as Mohammad Khan.

Mr Chawla, expressing grief and sorrow over the loss of many lives in the recent liquor tragedy in Lyari, ordered a crackdown on illegal distilleries across Karachi. He warned that action would be taken against the officials concerned in case any person lost his life by consuming poisonous liquor in the future. He also issued orders for the arrest of the culprits behind the Lyari liquor deaths, and asked the director of excise to provide him a report within three days.—PPI
