UN welcomes reinstatement
His spokesperson said in a statement that “the secretary-general welcomes the defusing of tensions in Pakistan as a result of measures, including the government’s decision to reinstate Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry.”
“He sees these actions as positive steps towards national reconciliation,” the statement said.
Last Thursday the UN chief had called upon both the government and opposition leaders to sit down and hold “peaceful dialogue”.
