LAHORE, March 16: Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Nawaz Sharif and brother Shahbaz Sharif called Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday evening and congratulated him on his decision to reinstate all deposed judges and supported implementation of the Charter of Democracy (CoD).

Talking to newsmen here, Nawaz Sharif termed the CoD a revolutionary document and said that Mr Gilani had agreed to implement it.

“We are ready to cooperate with the PPP if the latter wished so in the implementation of the CoD. We want to atone for the past mistakes and have assured Mr Gilani of our complete support.”

About prime minister’s offer for dialogue on all outstanding issues, he said he would consult his party leaders on the matter.

Answering a question, he said he believed Mr Gilani would apply provisions in the CoD in the case of recently-appointed judges of superior courts.

Mr Shahbaz Sharif criticised delay in the issuing of notification about reinstatement of deposed judges.

The government should have issued the notification on Monday, he said.

The government could not issue the notification because, according to media reports, an advice to the effect from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat to the Presidency was sent late in the day.

The notification is now likely to be issued on Tuesday.

Hinting at talks between the PPP and the PML-N to sort out other issues, like repealing the 17th Amendment and lifting governor’s rule in Punjab, Mr Shahbaz Sharif said that all issues would now be resolved in parliament.
