ISLAMABAD, March 3: President Asif Ali Zardari accepted on Tuesday the resignation of federal Minister for Narcotics Control Nawabzada Khawaja Muhammad Khan Hoti.

Mr Hoti who belonged to the Awami National Party was in the first batch of 24 ministers who joined the federal cabinet.

He was first given the ministry for special education but after he developed some differences with his party and the government over some important recruitment, Mr Hoti was given the Ministry for Narcotics Control.

But, only after a couple of months he announced his resignation on the grounds that his party had failed to fulfil promises made with the people of NWFP.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Hoti said he was not surprised by the acceptance of his resignation which had been tendered in September. “I have already shifted from the ministerial enclave to my own residence,” he added.

An official handout issued here said: “On the advice of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, President Asif Ali Zardari has accepted the resignation of federal Minister for Narcotics Control Nawabzada Khawaja Muhammad Khan Hoti from the federal cabinet.”

HIGHLIGHTS
  • More bickering
Using delay tactics with visas over the American government’s cage rattling is self-defeating.
  • Austerity measures
Official profligacy in Pakistan is particularly distasteful coming at a time of severe economic stress.
