KARACHI, March 24: Acting President Fraooq H. Naek said on Tuesday that the United States had been told to stop drone attacks.

He said that if they continued misadventure, the matter would be taken up in parliament and the world would see a befitting national response.

He was replying to a question about continuing US drone attacks and reports of Washington’s plan to launch similar operations against Taliban and Al Qaeda sanctuaries in Balochistan after laying floral wreath at the Quaid-i-Azam’s mazar.

Mr Naek said that during CIA chief’s recent visit President Asif Zardari had made it clear that drone attacks must stop because they were proving to be counter-productive and undermining government’s efforts for normalising the situation in the troubled borderlands.

He said the entire nation, including the government, was opposed to such attacks.

He said that the three pillars of the government would play their role in consolidating democratic dispensation and hoped there would be no conflict between them.

He said the government would respect the court’s verdict on contentious issues.

Mr Naek paid rich tribute to the father of the nation who gave a separate homeland to the Muslims of the subcontinent.

He hoped that Pakistan would make a rapid headway in the comity of nations by following Quaid’s moto of unity, faith and discipline.

He pointed out that the Objective Resolution was the part of the Constitution. “Our government is fully implementing this and will continue doing so,” he said. The Senate chairman said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, his two sons and daughter Benazir Bhutto sacrificed their lives for the cause of the country.

Adviser to the Sindh chief minister Rashid Rabbani, Senator Islamuddin Shaikh and Special Assistant to the chief minister Waqar Medhi were present on the occasion.
