Malik hands over Zardari’s message to Ahmadinejad

TEHRAN, March 1: Interior Adviser Rehman Malik met Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here on Sunday as special envoy of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.He conveyed a message from the president and the prime minister to the Iranian leader.

The Iranian president said on the occasion that his country greatly valued its relations with Pakistan. The ties between the two neighbouring countries would be enhanced, he added.

In his meeting on Saturday with Iran’s Interior Minister Sadiq Mahsooli, Mr Malik discussed issues of security, drug trafficking and human smuggling. He provided two lists of Pakistani and Iranian kidnappers to the Iranian minister.

Pakistan and Iran had decided to establish a joint task force that will meet each month to discuss border issues, Mr Malik told reporters at a press conference in Tehran.

He said Pakistan wanted to ensure that nobody could damage ties between the two countries.—PPI
