QUETTA, March 16: A group which claims to have kidnapped a UN official warned on Monday if their demands were not met in 48 hours they would not be responsible if anything happened to John Solecki because of ‘inaction’.

The Baloch Liberation United Front (BLUF) kidnapped Mr Solecki on Feb 2 from his Quetta residence and demanded release of 141 arrested women and 1,109 ‘missing’ people.

A spokesman for the BLUF, who identified himself as Mir Shahiq Baloch, called a local news agency and said that John Solecki’s condition was fast deteriorating. “He is suffering from cardiac problems and the UN will be responsible for anything happening to him.”

He said: “We are providing him best possible medical treatment but his condition is not improving.”

He said that BLUF’s demands had been conveyed to the UN, but so far no action had been taken.
