ISLAMABAD, Nov 7: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Saturday allowed the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) to raise tariff by 28 paisa per unit.

The new tariff has been computed on the basis of fuel price, cost of purchasing electricity and operation and maintenance cost from April to June 2009.

The decision will affect all consumer categories, except those in the ‘lifeline category’ who consume up to 50 units per month.

Nepra has pointed out that the component relating to operation and maintenance cost is subject to revision after three years of the utility’s privatisation. KESC was privatised in November of 2005. Therefore, Nepra’s approved ‘x factor’ is required to be applied to the component. —Reporter
