Indian army protests truce ‘violation’
Other reports linked the ceasefire violation to serious worries in official quarters that militants of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba were planning to infiltrate into Kashmir in order to disrupt next month’s general elections in the country.
Reports say that Indian intelligence agencies feared that the militants would try to harm one or several senior leaders from the ruling Congress party and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party with a view to wreaking mayhem.
“A protest over the cross-LoC firing violation on March 21 in Uri Sector was lodged with the Pakistani forces during a flag meeting held yesterday between the two sides,” Brigadier General Staff 15th corps, Brigadier Gurmeet Singh, said in Srinagar.
PTI described it as a major ceasefire violation after a gap of a few months and said Pakistani troops fired throughout the night at Indian posts in Uri sector leaving a soldier injured.
It said Pakistani troops fired between 1500 and 2000 rounds on the Indian posts in Kamalkote area of Uri between 10pm and 3am during the intervening night of March 20-21. Lance Naik Prakash Singh of 10 JAK rifles was injured in the firing.
