QUETTA, March 3: Five Hazara tribesmen were gunned down near the Eastern Bypass on Tuesday evening. According to police, the attack near the Tameer-i-Nau Residential College Complex was carried out by two persons on a motorcycle.

“The victims had suffered bullet wounds,” doctors said.

“It is a target killing,” DIG (Operations) Wazir Khan Nasar said. The victims were coming to the city from a flour mill in the industrial area. They were identified as Haji Mukhtiar, Hidayatullah, Nasim, Zahid and Liaquat Ali.

Police launched a search operation and beefed up security. Heavy contingents of police and Frontier Corps were deployed and patrolling was increased.

Paktunkhwa Milli Awami Party condemned the killing and termed it a conspiracy to worsen the law and order situation.

In a statement, the party criticised the government for its failure to protect the life and property of the common man and said it was alarming that such incidents were taking place almost every day.

It urged the government to arrest elements involved in the heinous crime.
