Ex-mill flour price up by Rs5 in Sindh, Rs2 in Punjab
On Wednesday, the Sindh government had raised wheat price by Rs500 per 100kg on the directives of the federal government. Wheat price has also been increased in Punjab by Rs200 per 100kg.
The federal government had pressed the provincial governments to immediately increase wheat prices because the new crop was being procured at Rs950 per maund.
The decision to raise flour price from Rs25 to Rs30 per kg (ex-mill) was taken by Pakistan Flour Mills Association (Sindh circle) on Wednesday.
Talking to Dawn, the association’s chairman Syed Johar Ali Kandhari criticised the Sindh government for not supplying wheat for which they had deposited around Rs700 million in the first half of the current month.
He said that after the increase in wheat prices, the millers would have to deposit Rs100 million more with the government.
He, however, said the Sindh government had assured the millers to resume supply soon because 30,000 tons of wheat was expected to arrive from Punjab and an equal quantity was to be provided by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan.
