Drone attack kills 10 in Kurram

PARACHINAR, March 12: A suspected US drone attacked a militant hideout in Berju area of the central Kurram tribal region on Thursday evening.

According to unconfirmed reports, 10 people were killed in the attack.

Foreign news agencies, however, quoted villagers as saying that 14 people had been killed.

Political Agent Arshad Majeed confirmed that missiles had been fired but said he had no reports about casualties. He told Dawn in Parachinar that four to five missiles had hit the area.

This is the second drone attack in the Kurram tribal region.

Two missiles were fired at a suspected militant hideout in Ahmadi Shama village in Lower Kurram on February 16 and 30 people, including foreigners were killed.

Local people said that the place attacked on Thursday was a hub of local and foreign militants.Sources said that local people had started rescue work, helping the injured people and retrieving bodies.
