ISLAMABAD, March 22: The newly-reinstated Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry will meet President Asif Zardari for the first time at the Pakistan Day ceremony to be held at the President’s House on Monday.

Justice Chaudhry has been invited to the ceremony which will also be attended by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, services chiefs, army generals, politicians and foreign diplomats.

Presidency spokesman Farhatullah Babar said an invitation had been sent but it was not confirmed if he will attend.

The venue of the Pakistan Day ceremony has been changed from the Parade Ground outside the Parliament House because of security concerns.

Meanwhile, President Zardari said in his Pakistan Day message: “The reinstatement of the deposed judges has raised expectations of the people, who want to see an end to this cycle (of dictatorships) … Let us, on this day, also resolve to fight the tendency to have one set of laws for the privileged and another for the unprivileged. Let us dedicate ourselves to upholding the independence of judiciary in accordance with the Constitution and the guidelines given in the Charter of Democracy. Unless there is rule of law, and everyone is equal before the law, the future of our great country will be exposed to internal and external threats.” — Syed Irfan Raza
