LAHORE, March 5: The chief of the Punjab Crime Investigation Department (CID), Malik Iqbal, was shown the door on Thursday for failing to ‘pre-empt’ Tuesday’s terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team.

According to sources, the CID had informed the government before a One-Day International in January of a potential threat, but it did not alert other law-enforcement agencies about the possibility of a terrorist attack during the Test which started on March 1. After sending the report in January, the CID did not bother to collect further intelligence.

“At least the CID should have sent its previous report, in which the Indian spy agency RAW was stated to be preparing to launch an attack on cricketers, as a ‘reminder’ to the department concerned before the Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka,” the sources said.
