ISLAMABAD, March 6: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani met senior PML-Q leaders on Friday night, apparently as part of efforts to seek their support in the fast-changing political environment.

There was no official announcement about the meeting between the Chaudhrys of Gujrat and the premier. And Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Pervez Elahi also denied that such a meeting had taken place.

However, PML-Q secretary-general Mushahid Hussain Sayed confirmed that the meeting had been held but declined to say what had been discussed.

“We want national reconciliation and the end of horse trading that has started in Punjab,” he told Dawn.

A source in the PML-Q said the meeting had taken place at the Prime Minister’s House and no other PML-Q leader was accompanied Chaudhry Shujaat and Parvez Elahi.

A source said that Chaudhry Shujaat asked the prime minister to immediately end governor’s rule in Punjab and call an All Parties Conference to resolve the crisis.

“Our side urged the prime minister that the PPP and PML-N should bury their differences and the government should take the first step,” Mushahid Hussain said.
