NEW DELHI: One of New Delhi’s main hospitals was evacuated Tuesday because of a bomb threat, a doctor said, amid a series of scares at other locations in the Indian capital.

Patients and doctors were instructed to leave the state-run Safdarjung Hospital in south Delhi, a doctor who wished to remain anonymous told AFP.

‘Police are searching the entire premises,’ he said.

There was also a threat to a second hospital and a municipal building which were found to be hoaxes, said senior police official Shankar Das, without giving details about operations in other locations.

The NDTV new channel reported that a total of five locations in the city, including a railway station and the central tourist district were also evacuated after police received anonymous phone calls.

Last September 26 people were killed in a series of deadly bomb attacks on busy shopping and tourist areas in New Delhi.
