KATHMANDU: At least nine people have been killed in landslides triggered by torrential rains in Nepal, an official said Thursday.

Six people died when their homes were swept away by two separate landslides in the remote far west of the country early Thursday, home ministry spokesman Thir Bahadur Chetri told AFP.

Local reports said an 80-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl were among the victims.

Separately, three workers were killed when they were hit by a landslide as they dug an irrigation channel around 200 kilometres northwest of Kathmandu on Wednesday, Chetri said.
