KATHMANDU: Torrential rains triggered floods and landslides in Nepal on Tuesday, killing at least 26 people in the west of the Himalayan nation, officials said.

At least 12 people were buried when two houses were swept away, said district administrator Rajendra Ghimire from Dadeldhura, 480 km west of Kathmandu.

Rescue work has been hampered by the heavy rains, he said.

State-run Nepal Television said 14 people were killed in neighbouring Achham and Kanchenpur districts, which have been battered by rains for the past three days.
