KABUL: Two Nato soldiers have been missing for two days in western Afghanistan, where soldiers are conducting a massive manhunt to track them down, the alliance said Friday.
The soldiers, whose nationality was not released, went missing from a routine supply mission on November 4, Nato's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement.
'Afghan and coalition forces are currently involved in an extensive search for the service members,' the statement said.
There are more than 100,000 international troops under Nato and US command currently deployed to Afghanistan to fight a Taliban insurgency that has become more virulent in recent months.
Western Afghanistan in particular has seen a spike in violence, with Taliban insurgents planting homemade explosive devices at roadsides to maximise fatalities, which this year have already passed 400, most of them Americans.
Western soldiers are rarely reported missing in Afghanistan.
The US military acknowledged on July 2 that a soldier had gone missing in southeastern Afghanistan and was believed to have been captured by rebels. -AFP
