Army took the lead through a 19th-minute set-piece at the Agriculture University Ground, Faisalabad. Shabbir Hussain curled the ball across the cage from the corner and striker Sharjeel Vicky had no problem beating goalie Basit Ghafoor with a downward header. Army led 1-0 at interval.
Their second goal came in the 47th minute in the form of a 40-metre screamer. Army now have 38 points from 17 matches while PMC have 18 also from 17 games.
Meanwhile, at the MTFA Ground in Lahore, PEL scored first in the 28th minute when energetic striker Mohammad Adil sank a corner with a simple header giving keeper Mohammad Shahzad no chance of stopping it.
But hardly two minutes had elapsed when Navy drew level through a spot kick converted by skipper Nomi Martin Gill, who beat PEL’s keeper Saqib Hanif with ease. The goal infused new vigor in the seamen as they took the lead in the 34th minute when international winger Asif Mehmood also steered the ball low past Saqib.
PEL made it 2-2 in the 39th minute when a ball crossing from the right reached unmarked fullback Shahid Ali on the far post after missing a few players.
The second session also produced three goals. Mohammad Shair made it 3-2 for PEL in the 58th minute and midfielder Ijaz Sarfraz consolidated the lead further in the 72nd minute to make it 4-2. The seamen fired their third goal in the 78th minute through midfielder Bilal.
