CHITRAL: The Shandur polo festival will commence on Tuesday where the teams of Chitral and Gilgit will fight for the title.

According to reports reaching here from Shandur, the attendance of people is expected to be low and no enthusiasm is witnessed in the city for the festival.

No outsiders or foreigners have arrived here to proceed to Shandur so far due to the closure of the Chitral-Peshawar road.

An official of the city’s PTDC hotel said only a few rooms of the hotel were occupied while it used to be filled to capacity on the occasion of the Shandur festival.

Meanwhile, the people of Songhur village, 100km from here, blocked the Shandur road for traffic for more than three hours, protesting that the government had not fulfilled its promise of rehabilitating the people affected by glacier burst three years ago.
