LIVERPOOL: Fernando Torres scored on his return from injury as Liverpool beat Manchester United 2-0 on Sunday to halt the club's worst losing streak in 22 years.

David Ngog added a second goal in stoppage time to relieve the pressure on manager Rafa Benitez after four straight losses and close the gap on leader Chelsea to six points.

As Man United slumped to its first loss since August, defender Nemanja Vidic was sent off in the 90th minute for the third straight match against Liverpool.

Liverpool lost Javier Mascherano in injury time before Ngog's goal. The Argentina midfielder was shown a second yellow card. -AP
