Sri Lanka’s Wijeratne wins ladies golf

KARACHI: Sri Lankan Sanduni Wijeratne amassed 41 points to win the two-day 3rd Ladies Golf tournament which concluded at the Karachi Golf Club (KGC) on Saturday.

South Korean Hea Kyung Park finished runner up with 40 points while her compatriot Myung Hee Yoo was second runner up with 35 points. Both are members of the KGC.

Shahzadi Gulfam, a former national champion, and Shahida Ismail finished joint fourth with a tally of 31 points.

The 18-hole main event was played on the Stableford format in which points are awarded for each hole depending on the handicap of the player.

Wijeratne, 23, has switched to golf recently after graduating from the US on tennis scholarship. She also pocketed the two Longest Drive prizes hitting 172 yards and 185 yards.

She received the winner prize from Ehsan Malik, CEO of the multi-national firm, who sponsored the event.

The Closest to The Pin awards went to Shirin Khan (4’ 8”) and Myung Hee Yoo (8’ 3”).

Tahira Raza won the Chip’n Putt event (bronze category) while Nabba Hassan finished runner up.

The silver category event went to Shahida Ismail while Shahzadi Gulfam was placed second.
