ISLAMABAD: A recent survey research has revealed that more than half of Pakistanis are contented with their lives, APP reports.

According to a Gilani Research Foundation's survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, majority of the Pakistanis appear to be overall satisfied with their lives.

‘A significant 74 per cent of the respondents claim to be 'a lot' or at least 'somewhat' satisfied with their lives. However, the prevailing law and order situation in the country is a source of concern for many,’ said the report.

In a nationally representative survey, men and women from different segments of society were asked ‘How happy or unhappy are you regarding your: income, profession, relatives, relations with others, personal health, and law and order situation?’

Most of the people - 74% - said they are satisfied and only 19 per cent said they have little or no satisfaction with their lives. Seven per cent did not give any response.

With regards to economic well-being, most of the people appear to be happy with their income and profession.

When the respondents were asked ‘How happy or unhappy you are regarding your income’ 54 per cent said they are happy or very happy about their income and only 14 per cent said they are unhappy or very unhappy.

Most of the respondents - 56 per cent - also seem to be happy or very happy with their profession.

When the same question was asked regarding personal interaction with others, 62 per cent respondents said they are happy or very happy with their relations with others, 55 per cent are happy or very happy with their relatives.

The majority of respondents, 56 per cent, said they are happy with their personal health, while only nine per cent said they are unhappy.
Law and order is the only issue which most of the people seemed to be unhappy about.

Only 31 per cent claim to be happy or very happy with the law and order situation, while 39 per cent of the respondents claim to be unhappy or very unhappy about it.

The survey, conducted by Gallup Pakistan Survey in January 2009, was carried out among a sample of 2,687 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country during January 18 and 19.

Gilani Research Foundation is headed by Dr. Ijaz Shafi Gilani who pioneered the field of opinion polling in Pakistan and established Gallup Pakistan in 1980.
