KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet was informed on Saturday that 25 terrorist groups, 16 of them having links with Al Qaeda, had been smashed and six terrorists had been killed in encounters and 56 arrested in the province during the year so far.

The meeting presided over by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah discussed the law and order situation and the proposed sports complex at the M.A. Jinnah Road.

The cabinet noted that the law and order situation was satisfactory and decided to reopen all educational institutions in the province from Monday.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Information Minister Shazia Marri said the government was taking all steps to equip security personnel with modern weapons and enhance the strength of the police force.

She said that work on the sports complex could not be undertaken because of some legal reasons.

She said that a four-member committee — comprising Senior Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq, Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, Revenue Minister Jam Mehtab and Minister Syed Sardar Ahmad — had been set up which would submit its recommendations within 10 days.
