Immigrants’ death
During the hearing of the case relating to the death of 47 Afghan immigrants in a container, the Frontier Corps, FIA and Pakistan Customs submitted reports blaming each other for the tragedy.
The Frontier Corps said that FIA and Customs staff monitored movements at the Pakistan-Afghan friendship gate and it was not within FC’s jurisdiction.
The Customs said its responsibility was to check smuggling and it had nothing to do with human trafficking which concerned the FC and FIA.
The FIA said its job was to check immigration documents under the foreigner and immigration acts whereas curbing the smuggling of goods and vehicles was the responsibility of the FC and Customs.
The court asked the investigation officer to submit a report on the incident at the next hearing on June 22.
