MINGORA: A militant leader carrying a bounty of Rs10 million was killed and his son was captured during a clash with security personnel in Matta tehsil of Swat on Wednesday.

According to sources, the body of ‘commander’ Nisar alias Ghazi Baba was found in Gwalerai area. He was considered a close aide of Tehrik-i-Taliban Swat chief Maulana Fazlullah.

Meanwhile, curfew in Charbagh continued for the second day and the Mingora-Charbagh road was closed. All educational institutions and bazaars in the area remained shut.

People of Khawakhela, Bahrain, Madyan, Kalam and Shangla district used the Kanju bridge route because of the closure of the Charbagh road and a large number of vehicles were stuck in the rush.

Security forces arrested 10 suspected militants in Mangaltan. Houses of two militants were demolished.

Houses of three other militants were set ablaze in Roria.

Security forces arrested one suspect in Imam Dherai, four in Changolai and three in Biakan. A vehicle was impounded.

AFP adds: ‘After a tip from an informant, the forces surrounded the house of Nisar Ahmed to arrest him but he resisted and started firing on troops,’ said Maj Mushtaq Khan, a spokesman for the Swat media centre.

‘During the retaliatory fire, Nisar Ahmed was killed and his son was arrested.’

The action was carried out before dawn.

A local resident said the body was taken away by security personnel.
