Sects reach agreement to end violence in D I Khan

D I KHAN: A six-point agreement to end sectarian violence in conflict-hit Dera Ismail Khan was signed between representatives of Sunni and Shia sects on Friday.

Chief of JUI-F Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who mediated between the two sides, told reporters that a committee consisting of 12 persons from both sides had been formed to ensure implementation of the agreement.

The sectarian conflict has taken scores of lives from both the sides during last couple of months in D.I.Khan.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that it had been decided that both the sides would surrender those suspects to the police who were required in different cases.

He said that the police had already handed over list of persons hailing from both sides, who were required in different cases of sectarian nature and these persons would be handed over with in 10 days of the agreement.

The JUI’s chief said that in the light of the agreement it would be binding on both the sides to dissociate itself from any person suspected to be involved in sectarianism.

He said that both the groups agreed not to support any person who indulged in sectarianism. He added that in case any of the groups was not able to surrender the wanted suspect it would dissociate itself from the suspect and support the law enforcing agencies in arresting him.

Both the sides agreed they would support the administration regarding the maintenance of peace in the city.

The jirga constituted a 12-member committee which would oversee the implementation of the agreement and would also act as guarantors.

The members are: Allama Ramzan Tauqeer, Abdur Rauf Baluch, MPAs Syed Mureed Kazim Shah and Khalifa Abdul Qayyum, Qari Muhammad Nawaz, Syed Enyat Shah, Gohar Zaidi, Qari Khalil Ahmad Siraj, Maulana Ghulam Hussain, Sabteen Shah, Zubair Shah and Mufti Muhammad Irfan.
