SUKKUR: Perhaps for the first time in the country’s recorded history, a cricket match was played between a team of eunuchs, Sanam eleven, and professional cricketers, Olympia eleven, at the Jinnah Municipal Stadium on Sunday.

Sanam eleven beat Olympia eleven in the 10-over match organised by the secretary of Sukkur Hockey Association, Arif Mehmood, in connection with the Independence Day.

Interestingly, he had requested a number of government officials and local politicians to attend the match as chief guests but they flatly refused the invitation.

However, chairman of district sports committee and nazim of union council-2, Khursheed Azam Shamsi, agreed to become the chief guest. He awarded the winners’ trophy to Sanam eleven when the match concluded.

Sanam, the captain of Sanam eleven, told journalists after the match that she wanted to thank the Chief Justice of Pakistan who had ordered registration of eunuchs throughout the country after which people had started to treat them equally.
