PESHAWAR: Suspected militants torched on Friday five fire tenders, two containers and two offices at a terminal where vehicles carrying supplies for Nato forces in Afghanistan are parked.

This was the third attack on the terminal in a few weeks. A group of armed men also broke into a shop near the World Fort logistics terminal and looted almost everything, shopkeeper Haider Khan told Dawn.

This correspondent saw several vehicles burning even hours after the attack. A security guard said that over 100 fully armed men had stormed the terminal under the cover of intense firing at about 2am, sprinkled petrol on vehicles and containers and set them on fire.

'The attackers burnt the official record, but took away the computers,’ the guard said.

According to an official, police reached the area soon after the attack and opened fire. The exchange of fire lasted about an hour and the militants fled towards the Landi Akhun Ahmed area. He said that the militants had fired several rockets, but no casualty was reported.

Police increased patrolling on the Ring Road and started checking suspicious vehicles.  After a similar arson attack on the Farhad Terminal in March this year, the owner closed his business and he is said to be planning to shift the terminal to Tarnol in Punjab.
