KARACHI: The Crime Investigation Department of Sindh police has claimed to have arrested two Afghan nationals who were allegedly running a gang of bank robbers to generate funds for Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan.
According to a senior official, the accused – Ataullah and Dawood Afghani – were arrested during a raid in Bilal Colony of Korangi area on Thursday. He said initial probe indicated that the two were wanted in more than a dozen cases, including those of murder and kidnapping for ransom.
CID’s SP Operations Fayyaz Khan said that an AK-47 assault rifle and two hand-grenades were found in their possession. ‘The accused were involved in several bank dacoities and other crimes mainly to fund the TTP,’ he added.
On Tuesday, the CID claimed to have arrested three members of the TTP in the third such action in a week. On Monday, a man said to be the amir of the Karachi chapter of the TTP and his three accomplices had been arrested.
On Oct 13, the CID announced the arrest of a TTP activist from Korangi.
