KARACHI: A delegation of MQM comprising Sindh Health Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Information Technology Minister Muhammad Raza Haroon and MPA Khalid Iftikhar Wednesday met KESC’s Chief Operating Officer (CEO) Jan Abbas Zaidi and other management members.

In the meeting Dr Sagheer Ahmed said that KESC should immediately improve its generation capacity to ensure uninterrupted power supply to Karachiites who have a general perception that KESC management was not doing enough for ensuring uninterrupted provision of electricity.

They (the citizens) strongly believe that KESC has not fulfilled it’s commitments towards power generation, replacement of outdated system and installation of new grid stations, said Dr Sagheer.

Dr Sagheer, who also heads Sindh Governor and Chief Minister’s Committee on KESC said that due to persistent long hours of power outages, the routine of majority of Karachiites has been badly disturbed and they are becoming hypertensive and developing other related diseases.

He said over and excessive billing is also an issue affecting the citizens. The amount of the bill is ever increasing despite low consumption, which is very irritating for them and KESC should deliver before it is too late as public opinion against the company is gathering momentum and could turn hostile.

The provincial health minister said that the federal government should take notice of the worsening situation of power supply. It should also realise the consequences of long hours of power outages in the economic hub of the country, he added.

IT Minister Muhammad Raza Haroon said that KESC should focus on public awareness to educate people to use electricity wisely so that the gap in generation and demand could be minimised.—APP
