Interim bail granted to ex-husband of Dr Aafia

KARACHI: A district and sessions judge granted on Wednesday interim pre-arrest bail to the former husband of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who was nominated in a case related to hurling threats at her sister.

The suspect, Dr Amjad Khan, through his counsel filed a pre-arrest bail application in the district and sessions court (east).

Judge Sadiq Hussain Bhatti granted him interim bail till Aug 17 against the surety bond of Rs50,000 and issued notices to the prosecutor and the investigation officer for the next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, on July 9 the suspect had allegedly threatened Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, the sister of Dr Aafia, of dire consequences when he came to meet his son at her house in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

A case was registered against the suspect under Section 474, 452 and 506-B of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Dr Fauzia at the Gulshan-i-Iqbal police station.
