ISLAMABAD: The government has set up a committee headed by Interior Secretary Qamar Zaman Chaudhry and three sub-committees under vice-chancellors of different universities to suggest ways of improving security of educational institutions.

The committees are required to submit their recommendations in four days after which a decision about reopening the institutions would be taken.

Tension and fear continued to grip educational institutions across the country on Wednesday as their management decided that the closure would continue because of security concerns in the wake of twin suicide attacks on the Islamic International University.

However, the Sindh government decided that all public and private universities in the province would reopen on Thursday.

The Punjab government, meanwhile, closed all college and university hostels in the province.

All examinations under the Cambridge system scheduled for Thursday have been postponed.

A number of educational institutions had been closed on Monday following apprehensions about terrorist attacks. Other institutions, schools, colleges and universities were closed on Wednesday after the attack on the Islamic University. — Syed Irfan Raza
