Terrorists working as 'speed breakers' in national progress

GWADAR: Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday said terrorists are working on foreign agenda to create instability in Pakistan, assuring that their strongholds are being targeted by the military.

Referring to them as “speed breakers” in the country's development, the prime minister said effective measures are being taken to fight the terrorists.

Gilani was talking to reporters after inaugurating the 67-kilometer long Gwadar-Jewani section of the Makran Coastal Highway (worth Rs2.13 billion) during which he expressed confidence in the government's effort to crush terrorism.

“I am confident that we will succeed in this war and resolve the issue of terrorism,” he said.

He said that the government is working on a strategy to attack the strongholds of militants, adding that the military operation is being backed by the political and religious leadership of the country.

He acknowledged the sacrifices of law enforcement agencies personnel who laid their lives for the defence of the country.

Referring to the suicide blast during the Ashura procession in Karachi, the prime minister appealed to the people to remain calm.

Gilani added that added project such as the Gwadar-Jewani road would ensure the country's economic development as well as create job opportunities for locals.

The completion of the project took three years. –DawnNews
