KARACHI: All government and private schools in the four provinces will remain closed from Wednesday — in Punjab till further orders and in other provinces for the remaining days of the week.

The decision was taken after Tuesday’s attack on the Islamic University in Islamabad and in view of reports that terrorists may attack educational institutions, hijack student vans and take hostages.

The Punjab government had on Monday decided to keep educational institutions open, but after reassessing the security situation ordered closure of all public, private and philanthropic universities, colleges and schools.

In Sindh, all schools and colleges have been closed for four days and universities for one day.

The NWFP government announced closure of all educational institutions, including the University of Peshawar, for the remaining days of the week.

Balochistan Education Minister Shafique Ahmed Khan announced that all educational institutions in the province would close from Wednesday and reopen on Monday.
