ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani called Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday and invited them to a briefing by the Parliamentary Committee on Balochistan.

According to an official handout, the prime minister said he would like to discuss the committee’s report with the PML-N before presenting it to a joint session of the two houses of parliament’.

Mian Nawaz Sharif agreed to meet the prime minister on his return from a visit to Gilgit-Baltistan.

The committee headed by Senator Raza Rabbani has prepared a 14-point package for Balochistan keeping in view the assessment of a committee headed by PML-Q secretary-general Mushahid Hussain. It incorporates points raised in both houses of parliament from time to time.

Prime Minister Gilani, who has been under pressure to call an All Parties Conference to work out a policy for resolving the Balochistan issue, held consultations with all relevant sections and, therefore, the idea of calling a national conference has been dropped for the time being.
