LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Husain has advised the politicians benefiting from the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) to resign from government offices and face the courts.
Addressing a press conference at his residence here on Saturday, the former prime minister said a time schedule should be announced for disposal of NRO-cases and corruption and criminal cases should be dealt with separately.
He expressed the hope that the courts would do justice with the beneficiaries of the NRO. He said the list had shown that neither any PML-Q official nor any member of their (the Chaudhry brothers) family had benefitted from the NRO.
He said people had been confused by combining the criminal and corruption cases. He said most of the cases against MQM leaders and workers were of criminal nature but their reasons were political and vindictive. The courts would take years in disposing of 8,000 cases.
He said the NRO had been promulgated with the objective of national reconciliation. It had been promulgated as a sequel to an agreement between General Musharraf and the Pakistan People’s Party.
He said that ‘Balochistan Package’ would not help the government solve the problems because the issues could not be resolved only through development works. The government should negotiate with tribal leaders and political workers to resolve the issues. He said that positive results could be achieved by incorporating the PML-Q recommendations in the package.
